Bio
Matt Strapp is the Manager, Sports Information, at West Valley College, bringing a decade of comprehensive experience in sports information, digital strategy, and media relations. A specialist in athlete-centric storytelling and brand growth, Matt is dedicated to elevating the visibility of student-athletes and programs.
Matt’s career is defined by a consistent track record of growing digital audiences and managing high-stakes communications. Most recently, at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), he led digital strategy and communications for 22 varsity programs. Under his leadership, the department’s content initiatives generated over 19 million annual views and earned the distinction of the OUA’s "Best Social Media Account." Prior to his time at TMU, Matt served as the Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations at San Jose State University, where he managed media operations for championship-winning baseball and women’s soccer programs, in addition to the department's men's basketball, men's soccer, women's tennis and cross country teams.
His professional background also includes significant experience at the national and international levels. He has served in communications roles for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, The Big West Conference, World TeamTennis, and Wasserman.
Matt’s academic foundation includes a Master of Arts in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco and an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. His early contributions to collegiate athletics were recognized at Wilfrid Laurier, where he was awarded the Marketing & Communications Award and the prestigious Bill Haggstrom Award for the male contributing the most to the university's athletics program.
Outside of his professional work, Matt is an avid fan of his Toronto sports teams, enjoys playing the guitar, and loves exploring California. He lives in San Jose with his wife, Ashley.
